Impressions on the international conference in Lunar New Year 2018: BIRDS OF THE SAME FEATHER STICK TOGETHER (Đồng thanh tương ứng, đồng khí tương cầu)

Wonderful space

From the 8th floor of a beautiful hotel, take a view with open eyes, Vung Tau city is like the magnificent picture with peaceful ocean, warm weather and beautiful sunlight for the new day. Lunar New Year‘s Conference 2018 is officially held here by Guru.

As many times of taking part in the dharma conference under the Guru’s permission, my first impression lies on the beautiful space of the conference. As for previous conferences, Guru always makes well preparation for everything so that all disciples who have been invited to take part in the conference always enjoy the holy atmosphere with elegant sights, especially our minds have a chance to connect with pure spiritual energy spreading from Guru, Buddha, Dharma and Sangha through the Vajra Guru’s role. And today, the place for conference brings us the wonderful experiences on the beautiful, luxurious and warm “realms”.

Professional organization:

The second impression on me is the professional organization. The well preparation for gathering disciples, foreign learners all over the world from the beginning to the end; the convenient accommodation for all disciples and foreign learners, and the process of conference including well decoration, MC, interpretation, the sound system, all are happily functioned and joined in harmony under the keen guidance and observation of Guru. My good impression with the Guru lies on his taking good care of disciples and doing everything with science; this international conference, Guru’s quality and wisdom are proved clearly with a higher level. I never make high-sounding statements, but all his professional organization for this conference. I have to take a hat off to say that “he is the professor of organizing all conferences.” I am so surprised with his professional organization because Guru is quite different from common masters in other places who often asked their disciples to do everything and they only make lectures when everything is well prepared. Their behaviors are not wrong but not perfect, especially on the path of Bodhisattva’s actions for the companion between Dhrama and life. I happened to remember a sentence Guru quoted from a famous man: “I am a human being, so that I am not unfamiliar with everything belonging to human beings.” And it is Guru who makes example by his own actions of body, speech and mind. It is Guru who learns how to drive a car at the stage of  that “the old age is the autumn of the life”, It is no one rather than Guru has made many spiritual journeys for the benefit of all sentient beings nationwide. And in this conference, in addition to the professional organization, Guru’s sharing few words to foreign learners in English fills us with awe. Obviously, Guru is good at Silpasthana-vidya (Learning of Technology), Sabdavidya (Learning of communication) and other kinds in Pancavidya  (The five Buddhist sciences)  which make difficult to other masters. And many masters are afraid of them while Guru has done so great.

Professional interpreting:

It seems to me that daily communication in English is so difficult, but English for specific purposes is more difficult. English for Buddhism is much more difficult. However, Guru’s disciples are good at English and become professional interpreters in this dharma conference. The familiar dharma names for translation like Mat Tu, Mat Dieu Hang and Mat Hue Phap now become the bridge to connect the Dharma from Guru’s articles on chanhtuduy.com with the English speaking world. Thanks to their great effort, there are the presences of foreign learners in this conference like venerable Rahula, venerable Somissara, Tantra Sutradaka (professor Avinash Kumar Srivastava), Tantra Upatissa (Akshay Kumar) and Tantra Mahadeva ( the principle of a school in Dubai).

In conference, all foreign learners have shared about their thoughts on the meeting with Guru sincerely and with the spirit of cherishing the dharma. The two masters of ceremony (MC) Mat Hai and Mat Tu coordinating with “the conference interpreting team” multiplied their efforts by tens of thousands, even millions in order that the translation for the sharing of foreign learners is natural, clear, faithful to the original text, and grammatically correct. With their proper inflection and correct words, the interpreters erased the barriers on language. If we think carefully, we will recognize that the interpreting is not easy at all. Only by listening to together in the same language, it is difficult for you to remember the exact content of the first sentence after listening to the second one. How hard it is to listen to two languages and while listening to, you must both remember the content and find the appropriate words to translate immediately with smooth speech. In this conference, Guru’s disciples have proved the professional interpreting! My statement does not belong to the case of “Each bird loves to hear himself sing”. I made conclusion after the comparison with other international conferences or worldwide cultural exchange events on TV show or by my witness. In such conferences, many interpreters confused and found it difficult to find the right words to translate so that delegates must wait for a little bit long to listen to the translated speech even incorrect translation happened so often. Some translation errors in such worldly conferences made the atmosphere boring and unpleasant. Some cases became the grievous failure in translation.

I felt so excited when Guru made the “Vajra joke” of the phrase “Birds of the same feather stick together” and asked the interpreters: “can you translate?” Do not translate my sentence with the meaning of “Every Jack has his Jill”. I was about to burst out laughing. The two sentences have some same structure of words, but they are so different in meaning. Thanks to Guru’s “Vajra Joke”, the atmosphere in conference became less stressful and the conference interpreting team “relieved” and felt comfortable to finish their mission. As for me, like many people, due to Guru’s Vajra joke, we learnt the lesson on the difference and the similarity in language in general, and in foreign language in particular and we bear in mind to choose words carefully while conversation.

“Last night, in the front yard, a branch of apricot blossomed.”

Those who have a little bit knowledge about poems and literature understand the above verse of Zen Master Man Giac’s poem and they all love his beautiful and timeless verses so that they can understand the hidden meaning of his poem. The beauty does not fade away against the law of time (spring ends), and the enlightenment always freshens with wisdom (Do not think…). However, Guru gave us the big surprise with his explanation about the two verses in the poem of Zen Master Man Giac in this dharma conference. He affirmed that: Do not think that no right dharma in the Dharma Ending Age, likewise in the long dark night of the Dharma Ending Age, there is still blossoming the apricot of the dharma lighting the path for all sentient beings…

The old apricot branch of Zen Master Man Giac and the present branch of apricot of Guru are parallels. The present is against the ignorant prejudice and the future surpasses the long dark night of birth and death. I am so happy with the apricot branch of the dharma which we are granted by Guru in this meaningful conference. And it is the apricot branch of the dharma is the main and most meaningful point in the conference.

Your disciple – Mat Kien.

    Dear Friend Mat Kien,

I loved reading your recollection of the conference. It sounds like it was a beautiful gathering of like minds or birds of a feather. Our Guru is amazing and his kindness and caring always takes me back even though I should be used to it with my dealings with him so far. We have been lucky to find such a Guru to teach us and guide us in our journey. May you be well and for the sake of all sentient beings may our guru be well. May we continue on our path to enlightenment with Guru’s guidance. Om Mani Padme Hum

  2. Dear fellow brother Mat Kien

I enjoy your thoughts through the article with a theme of “Impressions on the International Conference in Lunar New Year 2018: Birds of the same feather stick together”. And I am also thankful to vajra brother Mat Dieu Hang for her wonderful translation.

I suddenly recalled the solemn but also cozy atmosphere of the conference. This event is a lively proof for the global development of Song Nguyen Tantra House in the very first step under the guidance of the Guru. I do appreciate your sharing about the “distinctive characteristic” of Song Nguyen Tantra House: Dharma is Life and Life is the lesson of Dharma of which the Guru is a brilliant example. He himself drove the car on all paths of the country for Dharma propagation, amended the House to welcome disciples or directly executed the conference organization. It is a breathtaking moment of mine to witness his delivery of speech in English with such a melodious voice. So convincing! I also appreciate your thought on the theme of this year conference that never think that Wonderful Dharma does not exist in the Dharma Ending Age but on the contrary, it still blooms like a branch of apricot blossom that enlightens the path to liberation. The “branch of apricot blossom” of Zen Master Man Giac and that of our spiritual Guru has met at one point: Overcoming ignorant prejudices at the present – Surpassing the long dark night of birth and death in the future. Thank you for your great sharing

May the Guru and his consort live long for the sake of sentient beings

May vajra brother Mat Kien have health and achieve legitimate wishes

May all sentient beings be surrounded by blessings of the Trinity

    Om Mani Padme Hum.

Respected Guruji, I bow my head at the lotus feet of Guruji.

    I am Tantra Nirvadeva.

I am highly delighted to go through this article which gives a beautiful description of the International conference 2018 held at Vietnam.Guruji’s ” Vajra joke” is highly humerous !

Guruji’s words “I am a human being so that I am not unfamiliar with everything belonging to human beings” is very interesting !. This will rightly match with the way of life of Goutham Buddha!

Although Buddha renunciated all the worldly pleasures and left to forest life seeking remedy for human suffering, there he is attached to another type of samsara of the desciples including Bhikkus and Bikkunis (members of the Sangha) !

Finally, he came back from forest life to city life ( Rajghir Shravasthi, Vyshali) to preach Dharma to the lay public (These are nothing but human qualities one cannot escape One way or the other )

One philosophical point to be noted here is” One may be in Samsara, but samsara should not be in oneself ” like ” Boat maybe in water , but water should not be in Boat”!

Guruji thus gives a good message to the world.

    Om Mani Padme Hum.

Long live our beloved Guruji for upholding Dharma.

    Dr C H Lakshminarayan.

  4. Tantra Upatissa says:

Dear Guru thanks for sharing this article.

I like the way our Dharma friend Mat Kein

Expressed his thinking towards dharma meeting. Even the example given by Guru about apricot tree is really beautiful and meaningful.

I feel happy that in these dark age we are lucky to find our Guru who is lightening the world with his wisdom of dharma and teaching us with all his efforts.

May Guru live long and protected and get enlightened.

May all beings be free from suffering and get enlightened

Dear friends Mat Kien & Mat Deu Hang

    Good Morning & Happy Holi

It is a very pleasant surprise to me  that the entire International Conference has been captured in the script vividly and clearly. To have such recapitulating mind is the grace of the Guru. I am also amazed with its lucid   English translation,  pictorial and poetic presentation, that captures the reader’s mind and attention till the last line of the presentation. Kindly accept accept my congratulation from the core of my heart. May Guru’s ambrosia of  benediction shower forth on you both till the entire span of your life.

Dear friend,  man is the store house of infinite potentialities and an enlighten soul  has the capacity to actualise them in a spur of a moment. Guru is one of them. This is the reason that in his every presentation we find the perfection, divine manifestation, the beauty of articulation and synchronization. This is the inner aesthetic of his mind that is expressed in his action as he is the symbol of Truth, Good and beauty (Satyam, Shivam Sundaram)

We are fortunate enough to have his admonition, love and affection.

  7. Dear holy Guru, I have read this article.

    Dear vajra brother Mat Kien,

I am delighted to read your sharing about “Impressions on the International Conference in Lunar New Year 2018: Birds of the same feather stick together”. This article helps me once again reminisce and deeply feel the luck of being allowed by Guru to attend the International Conference, which had both happy festival and beneficial Dharma values. In addition to being able to listen to the great lecture from Guru, “Last night, in the front yard, a branch of apricot blossomed”.

Yes, I agree with you, the surprise gift from Guru_ “A few words with foreign readers” made me extremely impressed. I appreciate the part you share about Guru who convincingly makes example by his own actions of body, speech and mind in many respects when many masters are afraid of doing that. Thank you for sharing this good article.

May the Guru and his consort live long for the sake of all sentient beings.

May vajra brother Mat Kien achieve all legitimate wishes.

I am also thankful vajra brother Mat Dieu Hang for smooth translation. May you achieve your all legitimate wishes.

May sentient beings achieve the happiness of Buddha’s nature.

    Dear brother Mat Kien

thank you for your words describing the conference. I was sad I could not make it but to hear your description of these parts brought the experience closer.

    Dear Holy Guru

    i am Tantra Haramitra

your description of the apricot branch blossoming gave me a vision of apricots blossoming all over the world through this site and your vision. Through the words spoken at the conference and the work of all those involved many peoples, myself included, would not be able to study and hear the Dharma.

May the branches continue to blossom.

Wisdom comes from studying the Dharma, may my study continue. May I practice Dharma all days and nights.

May the holy Guru, and his followers, have good health and live long for the benefit of all sentient beings. May all sentient beings achieve the happiness of Buddha ‘s nature.

    Respected Guruji,

I have gone through the nice letter/ article of  Mat KienI . I salute  Mat Kien for the nice article. The way of description is excellent and full of inner meanings.  Guru’s extraordinary capacity and patience towards Dharma and disciple really bow down our head towards him. The way he managed and organized the Dharma Conference  is not possible for a lay man. Learners from various parts of the country as well as out side appreciate his  talents and his deep knowledge. I feel unfortunate as i could not able to attend and meet the Guru Ji at Dharma Conference  in Vietnam.

    with regards,

    Dear Mat Kien,

I have taken great delight in reading your article. The conference in Lunar New Year is over but its atmosphere seems to be here thanks to your honestly vivid description and brilliant photos. This brings to us, the readers of website chanhtuduy.com, a chance to take part in the conference although we weren’t there in real time (we feel as if we were there). Of among your impressions, I like the one that describes how difficult the interpreters were to face and overcome during the period. Now I understand that in order to successfully organize an event, everything should be prepared carefully even small ones. And I am happy to hear that the conference was successful from beginning to end due to  great effort of the Guru and his disciples in everything.

May Yidam, Guru and Dakini bless you on the path to ultimate liberation.

May your Guru and his consort live long for the sake of all sentient beings.

May all sentient beings be surrounded by the Three Jewels.

    Om Mani Padme Hum.
